Bucs Release Offensive Linemen
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Bucs have released offensive lineman John Molchon from the practice squad just one week after signing him to it. He was initially signed after another offensive lineman on the practice squad, Raiqwon O’Neal, ended up signing to the Seahawks’ active roster.

There was solid competition on the interior offensive line that Molchon was in the running for. He was in the mix with Nick Leverett and Aaron Stinnie among others, but Leverrett and Stinnie made the roster. A presumption was made that Molchon could’ve made the team as a backup center, though the Bucs trusted Leverett enough even knowing Stinnie could only play guard.

Molchon has spent the last couple seasons on the Bucs practice squad and has experience at center and guard. His was part of a group of three players who can with starting center Robert Hainsey, reserve guard-center Leverett and Molchon.

Another Move Coming For The Bucs?

After the release of Molchon, the Bucs did not make another corresponding transaction. With a game on next Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay will have off on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning to practice from Thursday through Saturday.

That gives them a couple of days to fill out their last practice squad spot. There’s also a possibility that the Bucs fill two practice squad positions given the recent news about running back Chase Edmonds expected to be out for two to four weeks.

The Bucs have Ke’Shawn Vaughn on the roster to be RB3, but they could call up Patrick Laird for some extra depth. Vaughn had an unexcused absence during the first week of the season due to being unhappy about his place on the depth chart. Tampa Bay may also tried to find another back in free agency depending on how the roster could be constructed.
