Cole Kmet believes the Bears' offense is better on paper than the team's highly ranked defense
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have once again dominated the headlines during the offseason after completely overhauling the offensive side of the ball.

Over the past few months, Bears' general manager Ryan Poles has acquired quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receivers Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze, running back D'Andre Swift, and others to transform the unit.

The bulk of the Bears' struggles during the 2023 season came from the offense and the front office made sure to fix things in a major way beyond just hiring a new coordinator in Shane Waldron.

Now, the Bears' offense appears to be ready to compete with some of the best teams in the entire league as the team looks to return to the playoffs as soon as this season.

One of the returning faces, and leader, on the offensive side of the ball is amazed by all of the changes the front office has made this offseason and believes the unit is better than the team's defense that tied for the league lead in interceptions in 2023.

"I think on paper, us," tight end Cole Kmet said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show. "We have to go out an prove it. I think it will be an exciting camp. I think it will be a lot of fun and a lot of good competition between the receivers and [defensive backs] and tight ends, our O-line vs our D-line. I think it'll be a fun matchup but I'm going to have to give it to us on paper for now."

On paper, I would have to agree with Kmet considering the team now has two Pro Bowl caliber wide receivers along with a Top-10 pick, two high-end dominate tight end options, and a dual-threat running back out of the backfield. Not to mention the team's new quarterback in Caleb Williams throwing the ball.

However, the defensive side of the ball still has some top names as well in 2023 Pro Bowlers Jaylon Johnson and Montez Sweat, two high-flying linebackers in the middle of the field, and the emerging Tyrique Stevenson on the outside.

Training camp in Chicago will be a big opportunity now that both sides of the ball will have a lot of potential going into the season. Being able to face a top defense and potentially an equally impressive offense every day will be a massive advantage for the Bears' entire roster to prepare for the 2024 season.

Things are definitely on the come up for the Bears heading into this upcoming season and it's a testament to what the team has been able to build over the last two years.

"After being around Ryan [Poles] for the last couple years and seeing where this thing was headed, the way coaches operated in the locker room, you can see the vision," Kmet explained on the "Up and Adams Show" with Kay Adams. "I was really excited about it and I'm in here everyday. I see what's going on, I know the direction it's going, and I'm excited for what's to come."

It seems like that's a common sentiment shared by everyone inside the Bears' building as the organization continues to move forward toward turning the franchise around.
