Denver Broncos Will Continue to Make More Shocking Cuts for Victory, Former Sean Payton Player Reveals
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos may still be far from making a push for the Super Bowl, but they’re hard at work to building a team that can stand atop the rest of the NFL.

Sean Payton will be the key man that the Broncos will be relying on to get things started. He made his stance clear to everyone the moment Russell Wilson was released by the team for his terrible fit to Payton’s system.

While other people may see what was done to Big Russ as humiliating, all that matters to Payton is building a team that can win the Super Bowl. One former player of his even warned Broncos Country that he may not be done with his purges.

Former Sean Payton player tells Denver Broncos fans to expect more movements within the roster

Roman Harper is an analyst for the SEC Network who also played professional football under Payton during his time with the New Orleans Saints. When he was asked if the worst has come and cone for the Broncos when it comes to their roster, he laughed said fans can expect more changes to come.

Per Sean Keller of The Denver Post:

“I’m not shocked,” Harper told me by phone Tuesday, about the time linebacker Josey Jewell joined Simmons, Russell Wilson and Jerry Jeudy in the Broncos Alumni Club. “I would say this any time a new regime comes in, that none of those things shock you.

“It should put everybody on heightened awareness. It’s about what-have-you-done-for-me-lately. I think (Payton) runs a tight ship. He’s not (just) a players’ coach, so you just have to — he wants the sustained success, so you have to win.”

He also mentioned that the Saints team that won Super Bowl XLIV only had six players remaining out of the team Payton inherited in 2006.

Can the Denver Broncos win it all with Sean Payton?

The fact that the team willingly took on the cap penalty just to let go of Wilson is a testament to the amount of trust the organization has in Payton’s abilities as a head coach.

However, there are plenty of things the Broncos have to fix with their roster last season before they can compete for a Super Bowl title. The offense looked fine with Russell under center, but the team just fell short during the most important moments of the season.

Meanwhile, a lot can be said about the abysmal performance of the defense. They ranked 29th in total yards allowed and 27th in total points allowed.

It will be a long road for the Broncos, but they have the potential to win as long as they trust Sean Payton to build the team the right way.
