Ex-NFL GM lauds potential of Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence

A former league executive believes it's only a matter of time before Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence inserts himself into the elite quarterback club.

"I think the sky is the limit for him," former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, a contributor for CBS Sports, recently said, per SiriusXM NFL Radio. "I think a year from now, we're gonna be talking about Trevor Lawrence up there with the Joe Burrows of the world with the Josh Allens of the world."

Last season, Lawrence showed why he was the first-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In 17 games, the 23-year-old tossed 25 TDs, completed 66.3 percent of his passes, logged a 95.2 passer rating and recorded 4,113 passing yards, ninth in the NFL.

To top it off, he led Jacksonville to its first postseason victory since the 2017 playoffs. In a 31-30 win against the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild-card round, Lawrence and the Jaguars overcame a 27-point deficit — the third-largest comeback in postseason history.

After his 2022 breakout, Lawrence could continue to grow into one of the league's premier passers and become an MVP candidate.

"No Jaguars player has ever received an MVP vote. One would be hard-pressed to think that won't change emphatically in Lawrence's burgeoning career," wrote Grant Gordon of NFL.com. "In 2023, if Lawrence — coming off a 25-TD and 4,000-yard campaign — continues to ascend, there's no reason to believe he won't be in the regular MVP convo this year."

Per DraftKings, Lawrence has the sixth-best odds of winning the award, which will increase if he has another big year. Whether he wins the award or not, don't be surprised if Lawrence makes a second consecutive Pro Bowl and cements himself as a top-10 QB.
