Former Giants Receiver Plaxico Burress Reveals Opinion of Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

“I believe he’s reached his ceiling as a quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys,” Burress said. 

When host Craig Carton asked the former Giants receiver if he thought the Cowboys could win with Prescott, he said, “They can win, but they won’t win a championship with him.”

Burress doesn't appear to be alone in his feelings about Prescott. Recently NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms released his rankings of all NFL quarterbacks, and he had Giants starter Daniel Jones two spots higher (No. 11) than Prescott (No. 13).

That's a significant change from the year prior when Prescott had a top-10 ranking, and Jones was ranked No. 21 on Simms' list.

But let's get back to Prescott. He has led the Cowboys to the playoffs in four of his last seven seasons, including the last two campaigns. However, he has a 2-4 record in the postseason, having never managed to bring his team beyond the Divisional round.

Playoffs aside, let's look at production. Last season Prescott threw a career-high 15 interceptions during the regular season, tying him with Houton's Davis Mills for the league lead -- this in three fewer games played than Mills.

To make matters worse, many of Prescott's interceptions were backbreakers that cost his team in the final result.

Prescott, who has appeared in just 33 games over the last three seasons due to injuries, also seems to have developed some balk security issues. Over the last two seasons, Prescott has 18 fumbles, ten of which the other team recovered, his 14 fumbles in 2021 being a career-high.

Last year, former Cowboys great Drew Pearson didn't hold back when unloading his disappointment in Prescott's play.

"I'm just wavering now with Dak," Pearson said during an interview on the Zach Gelb Show. "I just saw regression as the season went on, and that's a disappointment at $40 million a year.

"I was really high on him ... when they first drafted him. I was excited about that because of what he did at Mississippi State. He brought that winning attitude there, and I thought he could bring that here," Pearson added.

Prescott might have a winning regular-season record as a starter, but enough red flags have popped up in his game of late to make the upcoming season a make-or-break one.

Meanwhile, the Giants and Daniel Jones seem to be heading in the right direction after Jones's first three seasons had people wondering if he'd ever amount to a hill of beans. With an improved supporting cast and a new contract, expectations for Jones will probably be just as sky-high as they'll be for Prescott.
