Insider reveals when fate of Eagles' Nick Sirianni may be known

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio noted in multiple articles published ahead of the weekend that the fate of Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may not be made known to outsiders until some point next week. 

In a piece published late Thursday night, Florio mentioned how an unnamed executive pointed out that the Cleveland Browns didn't announce after their wild-card playoff defeat at the Houston Texans last Saturday that head coach Kevin Stefanski is returning for at least one more season. 

"Why make a statement that he’s coming back? That just makes it look like you considered that he might not come back," that source told Florio about the Eagles-Sirianni situation. "That’s what (Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager) Jerry Jones does. I don’t think the Eagles are that kind of organization."

Florio added on Friday that Sirianni's end-of-season news conference won't happen before next week because "weather issues and exit interviews apparently have delayed" such an event. 

"The end-of-season session is required by league rule," Florio explained. "The other five coaches whose teams lost in the wild-card round have done it. Sirianni is the last man standing." 

Sirianni's job status routinely generated headlines as the Eagles dropped five of six games to limp into the playoffs with an 11-6 record. Individuals throughout the sports world then accused Philadelphia of "quitting" during this past Monday's 32-9 prime-time wild-card loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had been linked by some with the Eagles for at least the past couple of weeks, but that was before he became the favorite to accept that position with the Atlanta Falcons. It's possible that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will ultimately decide after an exit interview to give Sirianni somewhat of a mulligan after the 42-year-old guided the club to a Super Bowl appearance less than 12 months ago. 

With that said, Lurie doesn't need to be in any rush to confirm such a call as long as Sirianni eventually meets with media members.
