Matt Corral Inks Deal with UFL Team
USA TODAY Sports

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral has signed a deal to play for the Birmingham Stallions, the UFL announced on Tuesday.

Back in 2022, the Panthers traded up with the New England Patriots in the third round of the draft to select Corral out of Ole Miss. After a disappointing first season from Sam Darnold as the team's quarterback, then head coach Matt Rhule knew he had to add to the quarterback room. Later that summer, the Panthers traded for Baker Mayfield, ultimately pushing Corral to third on the depth chart.

Unfortunately, Corral suffered a Lisfranc injury in a preseason game against New England which cost him his entire rookie season. Both Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield also went down at different parts of the year, meaning had Corral been healthy, he would have had an opportunity to start.

The writing was on the wall for Corral's future in Carolina following the selection of Bryce Young and the free agent signing of Andy Dalton. He was waived at the end of August, eventually making his way over to the Patriots for a short stint.
