Mitchell Trubisky: Steelers more of 'a family vibe organization' than Bears

Veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky may have initially preferred to have signed with the New York Giants over the Pittsburgh Steelers this past offseason for at least a few reasons, but he's done well to find a home and a chance to resurrect his career in the Steel City.

Long before Trubisky spent the 2021 season as a backup with the Buffalo Bills, the Chicago Bears made him the No. 2 pick of the 2017 NFL Draft over a different option at the position named Patrick Mahomes. Trubisky experienced ups and downs during his Chicago tenure, but Ryan Taylor of NBC Sports Chicago noted Friday that the Bears' decision to hire Matt Nagy as head coach in 2018 essentially began the beginning of the end of the signal-caller's time with the organization.

Taylor also explained that Trubisky spoke with teammate and All-Pro defensive tackle Cameron Heyward on a recent edition of Heyward's "Not Just Football" podcast about the differences he's noticed between the Bears and Steelers.

"I would say it's a family vibe organization," Trubisky said of the Steelers. "They take care of the players and it's very transparent with communication and just what's expected here."

While reporting on Wednesday that Trubisky has essentially already won the Steelers' starting job over rookie Kenny Pickett and backup Mason Rudolph, NFL insider Jay Glazer of Fox Sports said that players inside the locker room "have so much confidence in" Trubisky this summer. Perhaps that type of backing will help Trubisky jump-start a career that initially stalled out in Chicago.
