New Chiefs proposed stadium includes interesting twist

The Kansas City Chiefs may be looking for a new home stadium, and there is a new proposal that includes an interesting twist.

Voters in Jackson County, Missouri recently voted against a bill that would have raised funds to finance a renovation for Arrowhead Stadium and a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals.

Sports architect David Manica designed a proposed stadium for the Chiefs on behalf of an unnamed developer, according to FOX4 in Kansas City. Manica is the same architect who designed Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, which is the home of the Raiders, and he has designed the stadium that will be the new home of the Titans.

That marks a big change from Arrowhead Stadium, which is open air and often subject to extremely cold temperatures. The cold temperatures at Arrowhead Stadium became a major topic when the Chiefs faced the Dolphins for a wild-card playoff game in January in freezing conditions earlier this year.

Beyond just the dome factor, there is another interesting aspect of the proposed Chiefs stadium. This proposal calls for the stadium to be located in western Wyandotte County in Kansas. Being in Kansas, there is a potential STAR Bonds program that could be used to help finance the stadium.

Nothing appears to be imminent, but the Chiefs potentially getting a covered stadium would be an interesting development.
