NFL Analyst Tones Down The Expectations For New York Jets
Danielle Parhizkaran / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Jets are one of the most polarizing teams in the NFL heading into 2024.

Some think they will be legitimate contenders. Others think they will continue in their overall misfortune.

Count Fox Sports host Joy Taylor among the latter.

During a recent episode of FS1’s Speak, the crew was discussing what realistic expectations were for the Jets next season, and Taylor thinks things should be tempered.

Taylor says that she was talked into believing New York was a Super Bowl contender last season, but then on the Jets’ first offensive series of the year, Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles.

We’ll never know just how good New York would have been with a healthy Rodgers in 2023, but with Rodgers on the mend going into next season, we may get a good idea soon.

The 40-year-old will almost surely be ready for Week 1, and with the Jets making some major additions this offseason and the rest of the AFC East weakening, Gang Green actually does seem primed for a run if Rodgers is able to stay healthy.

New York signed wide receiver Mike Williams to pair alongside of Garrett Wilson, it made numerous moves along its ailing offensive line and also swung a deal for elite pass rusher Haason Reddick.

The Jets managed to go 7-10 this past year with Zach Wilson and Trevor Siemian running the show under center, so a healthy Rodgers should be able to add at least a couple of wins, if not more.

We also should be doubting Rodgers at our own peril.

The last time it looked like Rodgers was declining after a pedestrian 2019 campaign with the Green Bay Packers, he responded with back-to-back MVP seasons.

He certainly appeared to be slowing down in 2022 before he was even traded to the Jets, but again, we probably need to be careful dismissing Rodgers, even at his current age.
