NFL Week 2 betting guide

One week into the NFL season, we have results and data to help guide our picks a bit better. It's still just a one week sample size, so we'll be bringing in 2021 numbers when applicable.

Betting thoughts for every game this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

Spread: Tampa Bay -2.5

Total: 44 points

The injury list out of Tampa Bay was quite extensive list, but it seems they should have most of their major contributors good to go for Sunday. It took a fourth-quarter comeback for New Orleans to take down Atlanta, we'll take the points on the far superior team.

Betting: Buccaneers -2.5

Carolina Panthers @ New York Giants

Spread: New York -2

Total: 43.5 points

The Giants quickly became the darlings in Week 1 after Brian Daboll went for two to win the game instead of settling for overtime. What people forget is that the Giants defense quickly let the Titans drive down the field, only to get bailed out by a missed field goal. New York let third-down back Dontrell Hilliard catch two touchdowns; imagine what Christian McCaffrey can do on Sunday?

Betting: Panthers +2

Miami Dolphins @ Baltimore Ravens

Spread: Baltimore -3.5

Total: 44.5 points

The Ravens allowed the sixth-most touchdowns to tight ends last season, and let up another in Week 1, suggesting this vulnerability remains on the table. Surprisingly, it was Durham Smythe who led Miami TEs in snaps and targets over Mike Gesicki. The value is far better on Smythe scoring, a bet we have to take a stab on.

Betting: Durham Smythe TD (+750 FD)

New York Jets @ Cleveland Browns

Spread: Cleveland -6.5

Total: 40 points

Last year, no team allowed more touchdowns to running backs than the Jets. They kept the Ravens runners out of the end zone, instead allowing three receiving touchdowns. We feel a return to their true vulnerability is in order, and we'll take the even money on Kareem Hunt to score, fresh off his two-touchdown performance in Week 1.

Betting: Kareem Hunt TD (+100 DK)

New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Spread: New England -2

Total: 40 points

The Steelers sacked Joe Burrow seven times in Week 1, and Mac Jones and the Patriots offense looked out of sorts in Week 1. Even with TJ Watt out, Pittsburgh has the juice to continue being a strong defense. New England could struggle to score. We're taking the home dogs.

Betting: Steelers +2

Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Spread: Indianapolis -3.5

Total: 45 points

Jacksonville came into this new season as one of the most vulnerable secondaries to big plays, and backed that up by allowing Washington to complete six 20+ yard passes. Michael Pittman quickly showed himself to be Matt Ryan's top target, going over 100 yards and connecting on a pair of 20+ yard catches. We're betting on another big play from Pittman. Note: Pittman is nursing a quad injury and might not play. But if he goes, we like him.

Betting: Michael Pittman over 22.5 long reception (-115 BetMGM)

Washington Commanders @ Detroit Lions

Spread: Detroit -1.5

Total: 48.5 points

The Lions are clearly going to be much more competitive this season, but that defense still seems like a major issue, especially the secondary. Carson Wentz showed immediate chemistry with his receivers, and one of them seems bound for a big game in Detroit. When props open up, consider looking Terry McLaurin's way, especially after seeing Philly's top receiver AJ Brown rack up 155 yards.

Betting: Commanders +1.5

Atlanta Falcons @ Los Angeles Rams

Spread: Los Angeles -10.5

Total: 46 points

That Rams offensive line looked like a major issue against the Bills last Thursday. Atlanta's defensive line was able to generate some solid pressure on Jameis Winston in Week 1, so any disruptions they can cause can keep this game reasonably close. We'll take the points.

Betting: Falcons +10.5

Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers

Spread: San Francisco -9.5

Total: 41.5 points

This spread tells us that oddsmakers are refusing to believe that Week 1 is a sign of things to come. Weather or not, the Niners had a sloppy loss to the lowly Bears, while Geno Smith was efficient and effective en route to a Seahawks upset win over the Broncos. We're riding with the Seahawks to keep this one tight. Seattle is 4-0 against San Francisco over the past two seasons. Smith is 9-0 ATS in his last nine starts.

Betting: Seahawks +9.5

Cincinnati Bengals @ Dallas Cowboys

Spread: Cincinnati -7.5

Total: 41.5 points

This game could get out of hand in a hurry. We have an angry Bengals team off a divisional loss they should have won facing backup Cooper Rush and what seems to be a lowly Cowboys team. Expect a massive game from Ja'Marr Chase against a defense that allowed Julio Jones to break off a big play. We'll just bet on an easy win for Cincy.

Betting: Bengals -7.5

Houston Texans @ Denver Broncos

Spread: Denver -10

Total: 45 points

Houston's secondary was an issue last season, and Matt Ryan threw for 352 yards and five passes of 20+ yards in Week 1 against them. Ignoring the blown game by the Broncos on MNF, Russell Wilson did show immediate chemistry with both Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. Jeudy went for 102 yards and Sutton went for 72, both getting open down the field. Both are great bets to go over again on Sunday, they were each targeted 7 times.

Betting: Courtland Sutton over 52.5 receiving yards (-115 DK)

Arizona Cardinals @ Las Vegas Raiders

Spread: Las Vegas -5

Total: 51.5 points

This Cardinals team got blown out by the Chiefs and now head up the road to face Las Vegas. Davante Adams and Derek Carr produced together immediately, and we'll bet on the Raiders cruising here. This Arizona defense is going to be an issue this season

Betting: Raiders -5

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers

Spread: Green Bay -10

Total: 42 points

With the Packers dropping a bad Week 1 loss, is it time for the panic button? Same thing happened last season, and Green Bay proceeded to win their second game by 18 points. Aaron Rodgers has wreaked havoc on the Bears his entire career. He's 21-7 ATS against Chicago and has covered in nine straight. We'll bet on an easy win for the Packers.

Betting: Packers -10

Tennessee Titans @ Buffalo Bills

Spread: Buffalo -10

Total: 49 points

The successful couple of years the Titans have strung together may be in jeopardy, as the team without AJ Brown and Harold Landry just can't be considered a true contender. Buffalo blew the doors off Los Angeles in the season opener, and they should be able to do the same here in their first home game.

Betting: Bills -10

Minnesota Vikings @ Philadelphia Eagles

Spread: Philadelphia -2

Total: 50.5 points

This feels like a high-scoring Monday Night contest. The Lions offense put up 35 points on the Eagles, and the Vikings are ... just a bit better in that regard. Jalen Hurts looked good in Week 1, and the Philly offensive line should be able to mitigate the pressure that allowed Minnesota to shut down Rodgers. Let's root for points to wrap the week

Betting: Over 50.5 points
