Patrick Mahomes clarifies comments on Aaron Rodgers after Jets QB suffers potentially serious injury

The comma became the most valuable punctuation for 2022 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes on Monday after Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered an ankle injury four plays into his season.

Originally, Mahomes wrote, "Hate that man... Praying for the best," before adding a crucial comma to assure people that he hated what happened to Rodgers, not "that man."

Always one to get out of uncomfortable situations on the football field, Mahomes avoided trouble on social media with a clutch edit.

Rodgers was injured before Jets fans barely had a chance to celebrate his debut and while an early X-ray was clear, the main fear is that he may have suffered an Achilles tear.

That would be a cruel twist after an offseason in which Rodgers appeared rejuvenated with a change of scenery.

It also means we probably won't get to see Mahomes and Rodgers face each other when the Chiefs travel to the Jets in Week 4.

While they've been the undisputed best active quarterbacks over the past five-year span, they've never been able to settle the score on the field.

Mahomes and Rodgers have never met in the regular season despite the Chiefs and Packers, Rodgers' former team, playing each other in 2019 and 2021.

In 2019, Mahomes dislocated his right kneecap in a win over Denver one week before he was set to face Rodgers for the first time.

Two years later, Rodgers missed a Week 9 game against the Chiefs after testing positive for COVID-19.

Mahomes and Rodgers have combined for four of the past five MVP awards, with Mahomes collecting the hardware last season and in 2018. Rodgers won in back-to-back seasons in 2020 and 2021 and has four MVPs overall.
