Just a week after being cut from the Jacksonville Jaguars, former 2016 first-round pick WR Laquon Treadwell has reportedly found a new home in Foxboro, Mass. as a member of the New England Patriots practice squad. The move comes just days after the Patriots added WR Lynn Bowden Jr. to a similar practice squad deal.
Treadwell emerged as a solid option for rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence last season for Jacksonville, catching 33 passes for 434 yards and a score. Prior to that, he had stints with Minnesota, whom he played for from when he was drafted up until 2019. He played for Atlanta in 2020. He never emerged as a core piece of an offense at any point during his stints with either team.
Never truly reaching the potential of a first-round pick, Treadwell has bounced around from team to team looking for a fresh start and new opportunities. He now heads to New England in hopes of becoming a contributor to Mac Jones’ second-year campaign. At the very least, he provides experience and depth to a position group that is lacking both in New England.
