Nearly two months after his arrest, New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones has broken his silence regarding his arrest after attempting to take two firearms onto a plane. However, he doesn’t have much to say about the situation.

The arrest at Boston Logan International Airport occurred in June. Authorities were called to the scene after two guns were found in Jones’ carry-on luggage. He faces charges of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

When asked about the incident on Friday after practice, Jones deferred.

“I can’t answer that question. That’s a question for my lawyer,” he said, per The New York Post.

Despite the charges and ongoing concerns, Jones says he’s focused on football while he’s in training camp.

“When I get out here on this football field, it’s all ball, man,” Jones said. “I just come out here to play ball, give it my all and do what I’m supposed to for the team.”

Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 18 for a probable cause hearing.

Will Jack Jones play for the Patriots in 2023?

At this time, there’s no real clarity on what Jones’ outlook will be for the 2023 season. Teams typically gather all legal information before making a decision. Jones says that decision is out of his hands, as well.

“That’s not my call. That’s up to Coach [Bill Belichick]. I just do what I’m supposed to do on the field, give it my all on the field and hope it falls in the right place,” he said.

“Every day you’re worried about your future on any team, because this league is very liquid. You could be here today and gone tomorrow on any team. So you have to go out there and participate — availability is the best ability.”

Jones heads into his second NFL season in 2023. He posted a productive rookie season in New England, totaling 30 tackles, six passes defended, two interceptions, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.

Jones was a fourth-round selection out of Arizona State. He was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2019. During his time with the Sun Devils, Jones racked up 92 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 1.0 sacks, six interceptions, four forced fumbles and 20 passes defended.
