This one has appeared to be coming for some time now. And a mistake on Thursday night forced the Patriots to make a move.
The team announced on Friday that they have waived running back Ty Montgomery, making a spot on the roster for recently signed LB Christian Elliss.
Montgomery has played in all 13 games this season, but has only tallied five receptions on 12 targets for 40 passing yards along with three carries for nine rushing yards.
He also contributed a lot on special teams, but played a large part in the Steelers blocking a punt in Thursday's game, having missed they key tackle.
That block provided the Steelers with short field position and they capitalized, narrowing the deficit to three points with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion.
After his mistake, Montgomery was benched on the following punt, with Kyle Dugger taking his spot.
The running back sent a kind message to the team following the news.
