Saints' Derek Carr reacts to Raiders firing Josh McDaniels, Dave Ziegler

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr reacted Wednesday to the Las Vegas Raiders, his former employer, firing both head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler following Tuesday's trade deadline. 

"I've been through it, and this business is so tough that we forget the human side of things," Carr told reporters during a news conference, per Grant Gordon of the NFL's website. "So, my heart is for Josh and Dave and with my friends over there dealing with another change. That's -- I lost count of how many coaches it was for me at that point. There's another change for those guys to go through -- a new scheme to learn, a new philosophy. That doesn't make it easy as a player, but at the end of the day, nobody cares. You keep it pushing."

McDaniels and Ziegler joined the Raiders after the 2021 season, and the coach benched Carr late last December before the organization parted ways with the signal-caller this past February. Carr ultimately signed with the Saints and later revealed he knew he couldn't stay with the Raiders "once they made my wife cry." 

Despite that, the 32-year-old offered no harsh words for either McDaniels or Ziegler. 

"I wish Dave and Josh the best," Carr continued. "As they know, and I've told them, I wish them the absolute best. So, to see that it's hard. It breaks your heart for their families."

Carr and the Saints have endured somewhat of a roller coaster first season working together and head into the weekend at 4-4. New Orleans next hosts the 2-6 Chicago Bears this coming Sunday. 

"At the end of the day, it's a business," Carr added. "They know that and they'll be fine and move on. They'll have jobs in this league for sure."

According to ESPN stats, Carr began Thursday ranked 17th in the NFL among qualified players with a 51.0 adjusted QBR and 18th with an 87.6 passer rating on the campaign. He tossed eight touchdown passes and four interceptions over New Orleans' first eight games.
