Scott Pioli Names Great NFL HC Candidate That Nobody Is Talking About
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett even before he finished his first season.

Now, they’ve reportedly interviewed Stanford HC David Shaw, who NFL insider Scott Pioli believes could be this year’s biggest dark horse:

“No one’s talking very much about David Shaw. Here’s the deal with David: We won’t see David prior to the Draft. David knows players. If you have a Head Coach that is not only a good strategist and knows Xs and Os and knows how to lead a football team, but knows personnel — David is great at personnel; I used to go to Stanford every single year to spend time with David just watch him coach and listen to him ’cause he’d tell you everything about the Pac-10 players when they were Pac-10, and Pac-12 players. He also has a history of coaching in the NFL. He knows what the NFL is about; he understands the salary cap. David Shaw, to me, is a guy that I think isn’t being talked about.”

The Broncos have one of the best defenses in the league, and their offense showed promise later in the season, even despite Russell Wilson’s worrisome regression.

Shaw has a remarkable résumé at the collegiate level and some experience on the biggest stage as well, so he might as well be just what they need to finally get over the hump and go back to contention.

Then again, it might be a while before the Broncos reach a decision on their next head coach, especially after dropping the ball so badly last season.
