Seahawks Pluck OT Off Bucs Practice Squad

The Seattle Seahawks signed offensive lineman Raiqwon O’Neal to their active roster from the Bucs practice squad on Wednesday. Seattle lost both starting offensive tackles to injuries in the team’s 30-13 Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Seattle signed a pair of offensive tackles to replace Abe Lucas and Charles Cross, who was the Seahawks’ first-round pick last year. Lucas was placed on injured reserve and will be out until Week 7. The Seahawks signed O’Neal and undrafted free agent McClendon Curtis, who spent training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders after going undrafted this past spring.

In addition to adding O’Neal and Curtis, the Seahawks signed Greg Eiland and Jason Peters to their practice squad.

Bucs Bring Back Familiar Face To Practice Squad

To fill the vacancy created by Raiqwon O’Neal’s departure, Tampa Bay re-signed offensive lineman John Molchon back to the practice squad.

Molchon has spent the last couple seasons on the Bucs practice squad and has experience at center and guard. His return gives Tampa Bay three players who can snap now in starting center Robert Hainsey, reserve guard-center Nick Leverett and Molchon.

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound O’Neal, who played at UCLA, was primarily an offensive tackle for the Bucs in the preseason, but the team moved him inside to guard at the end of training camp.

The Bucs would have liked to have kept O’Neal, but didn’t have room for him on their active roster. And the team feels he’s not quite ready to play in NFL games yet, although he’ll likely be pressed into duty for the desperate Seahawks.
