Six-time Pro Bowl Raiders DT Gerald McCoy suffers another season-ending injury

Former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was hoping to relaunch his career with the Las Vegas Raiders but was carted off the field with a reported knee injury in the fourth quarter of Monday's entertaining overtime "Monday Night Football" victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Head coach Jon Gruden said Tuesday he feared McCoy had suffered a long-term setback, and it appears that's the case.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports McCoy has gone down with a season-ending injury. It's a brutal blow for the 33-year-old who never got a chance to play with the Dallas Cowboys last season after he suffered a ruptured quadriceps in training camp and missed that entire campaign. He played nine snaps on Monday night.

McCoy earned six Pro Bowl nods across nine seasons during his best days with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last decade and then tallied five sacks as a member of the Carolina Panthers in 2019. As Tashan Reed noted for The Athletic, McCoy was merely a backup with the Raiders but provided appreciated veteran locker-room leadership.

Rapoport added the Raiders signed defensive tackle Damion Square off the practice squad of the Chicago Bears to account for the loss of McCoy.
