Veteran NFL running back announced retirement on his birthday

Mike Davis is far from the first running back from the NFL Draft class of 2015 that comes to mind. Players like David Johnson, Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley made far bigger splashes.

With that said, having any sort of career in the NFL is nothing to scoff at, especially at a position like running back.

Congrats to Davis, who turned 31 on Monday and decided to celebrate his birthday in style. He took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, and announced that he's retiring from being an NFL running back.

Again, Davis never made a huge splash, but he did play eight seasons in the league for six teams.

Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, he has also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens — his last stop in the league. In 2022, he appeared in eight games for Baltimore and notched eight carries for 18 yards.

While Davis was certainly a journeyman, he did have a stellar 2020 season, rushing for 642 yards and six touchdowns for the Panthers.
