Watch: Zappe, Belichick have opposite reactions to game-winner
New England Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe. Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots won in the closing seconds against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. You would have assumed the opposite judging by Bill Belichick’s reaction late in the game.

The Patriots beat the Broncos 26-23 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.

Patriots kicker Chad Ryland converted on a 56-yard field-goal attempt that went through the uprights with just 2 seconds left in the game.

Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe reacted like any normal human would. The Western Kentucky alum was seen leaping for joy as he notched his second win as a starter this season.

Belichick, on the other hand, reacted like his team was just flagged for offensive offsides.

Belichick’s face probably matched those of fans at home who felt the Patriots’ chances of selecting Caleb Williams or Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft slip away. But the 71-year-old reacted the way he does for basically anything — with pure stoicism.

There’s been a lot of uncertainty surrounding Belichick’s future in Foxborough. Reports have swirled about whether or not Patriots owner Robert Kraft will move on from the legendary coach at season’s end

Sunday’s victory was Belichick’s 333rd career win as a head coach. He is just 14 wins away from matching Don Shula for the NFL’s all-time record.
