Darren Helm's last-second goal sends Avalanche to Western Conference Final

The Colorado Avalanche pulled off a last-second victory over the St. Louis Blues, 3-2, in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals Friday night.

With the win, the Avalanche wrap up the series against the Blues in six games, punching their ticket to the Western Conference Final.

Tied 2-2 late in the third period, Avalanche forward Darren Helm scored the go-ahead goal with six seconds left to send Colorado to the conference final for the first time since 2002.

Colorado's J.T. Compher scored two goals Friday night, including a game-tying goal midway through the third period.

The Avalanche held the Blues to single-digit shots in all three periods in support of goaltender Darcy Kuemper who made 18 saves to earn the win in net.

The Blues opened the scoring on Friday night when Justin Faulk scored with just a minute left in the opening period to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead.

Just over five minutes into the second period, the Avalanche tied the score 1-1 after Compher's first goal of the game. The Blues took back control of the game four minutes later when Jordan Kyrou scored to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.

Trailing 2-1 midway through the third, Compher's second goal of the night tied things up again, setting the stage for Helm's last-second heroics.

Colorado will host the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday for Game 1 of the Western Conference Final.
