Dustin Brown, Jamie Langenbrunner among 2023 US Hockey Hall of Fame class

USA Hockey has announced that former NHLers Dustin Brown and Jamie Langenbrunner, executive Brian Burke, Olympic gold medalist Katie King Crowley and referee Brian Murphy will be inducted into the 2023 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

The players will be officially enshrined in Boston on December 6, 2023.

Brown won two Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings, the only team he ever played for. Over 18 seasons, Brown had 712 career points in 1,296 regular season games, as well as another 49 points in 92 playoff matches. Drafted 13th overall by the Kings in 2003, Brown won silver at the 2010 Olympics in one of the many times he represented the USA internationally. Brown retired from the NHL in 2022, and had his number raised to the rafters in February of 2023.

Langenbrunner won two Stanley Cups during his career; first with Dallas in 1999 and with New Jersey in 2003. An Olympic silver medalist in 2010, Langenbrunner had 663 career points in 1,109 games and kept his same 0.60 point-per-game average in the playoffs with 87 in 146 contests. Currently serving as an assistant GM with the Boston Bruins, Langenbrunner retired from the game officially in 2014.

Burke has worked in the NHL since starting as the director of hockey operations for the Vancouver Canucks in 1987. He held that role until 1992 when he served as GM of the Hartford Whalers and USA’s World Championship team. Burke took over as the director of hockey operations for the NHL in 1993 and stayed there until returning to Vancouver as GM in 1999-00, where he kicked off his time by drafting the Sedin brothers. He went on to have stints in various roles with Anaheim, Toronto, Calgary and Pittsburgh and served as GM when the United States won silver at the 2010 Olympics. Burke will work as an advisor with the newly formed PWHL that kicks off the action in 2024.

King Crowley spent nearly a decade with the USA’s women’s national team, putting up consistent points each season. She won Olympic gold in 1998, a silver in 2002, a bronze in 2006 and a World Championship in 2005. She also won five silver medals with USA’s World Championship squad, resulting in her taking home hardware every time she represented her country. King Crowley has been with Boston College since 2003, serving as head coach since the 2006-07 season. In that span, she has won the NCAA’s women’s coach of the year title twice.

Murphy is one of just eight people to have officiated over 2,000 NHL regular season games. His tenure includes nine Stanley Cup finals, as well as various other major events. Internationally, Murphy worked the 2004 and 2016 World Cup of Hockey, as well as the 2010 Winter Olympics. Murphy served as president of the NHL’s Officials Association from 2008 until 2015 and has worked as an instructor at USA Hockey camps for three decades.
