Ex-Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau drops HUGE BOMB regarding Quinn Hughes
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

As the 2023-24 NHL season rolls on, Quinn Hughes, a prominent member of the Vancouver Canucks finds himself in the spotlight. His former coach Bruce Boudreau dropped a huge bomb regarding him on Friday night.

The 69-year-old NHL veteran made an appearance on the NHL Network panel recently. While working as an analyst, Boudreau revealed that someone in the Canucks organization had directed him to shift the position of Hughes and make him a center.

The 24-year-old defenceman has impressed audiences with his strong performances throughout his career. Before the start of the 2023-24 season, he was appointed as the captain of the Canucks.

This move though might not have happened had Boudreau followed the direction of the higher-ups. His refusal to make Hughes as a center has now come up, leaving fans shocked.

I'm not going to say who, but somebody in that Vancouver organization tried to make me make Quinn Hughes a center last year... I refused to do it. I said ‘I'm not making him a center, I'm not making him a center... they kept trying to get me to put Quinn at centre, and I am so happy I didn’t . Bruce Boudreau on Canucks asking him to make Quinn Hughes a center as per Daily Hive.

The transition from one position to another can be very difficult. As explained once by Alex Ovechkin, it can affect the style and impact their abilities. This could have happened with Hughes, but Boudreau stood strong in his resolve and refused to move on with this proposed plan.

Quinn Hughes’ performances in 2023-24 season

Prior to the start of the new 2023-24 season, the Vancouver Canucks handed the reins of captaincy to Quinn Hughes. The defenceman would become the 15th captain in the Canadian’s side history. So far he is leading the team by example.

Though he is not a forward, he has picked up great numbers as a defenceman. His 11 goals and 40 assists, have earned him a respectable amount of 51 points from 42 games so far this season.

His performances have made him one of the favorites for the Norris Trophy, an honor given to the best defencemen for their all-round performances every year. His contributions on the ice field have directly affected the results of the Canucks.

The Canucks with a 28-11-3 record are flying high with momentum. They currently sit on top of the Pacific Division with 59 points and are on a four-game winning streak. They will take on the Buffalo Sabres in their next encounter and hope to make it five wins on the bounce.
