Kings' Dustin Brown to retire after 18 seasons

The Los Angeles Kings already know they'll face the Edmonton Oilers in the upcoming postseason tournament. 

Ahead of the playoffs, the Kings have confirmed this will be the last ride for one of their legends. 

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and the Kings' official website, forward Dustin Brown will retire whenever Los Angeles' stint in the playoffs comes to an end. 

Brown, 37, first entered the NHL when the Kings selected him in the first round of the 2003 draft, and he's spent the past 18 seasons with Los Angeles. He served as the Kings' captain from 2008-09 to 2015-16 and helped the club win Stanley Cup titles in 2012 and 2014. As Katie Nash wrote for The Hockey Writers, Brown accepted a demotion in the lineup this past fall and has since gone on to tally nine goals and 19 assists across 63 games this season. 

Los Angeles will play its regular-season finale Thursday night at the Vancouver Canucks. 

Per Hockey-Reference and the league's official website, Brown ranks first in franchise history with 1,295 career regular-season games. He's sixth with 325 career goals, seventh with 712 career points, and eighth with 387 career assists. 

This will be Brown's eighth playoff appearance with the Kings.
