The Los Angeles Kings have announced their plans to honor recently retired franchise cornerstone Dustin Brown by retiring his No. 23 and dedicating a statue outside Crypto.com Arena.

Brown, 37, played his entire NHL career for the Kings, skating in a franchise record 1,296 regular-season games with the team between 2003 and 2022. He served as captain of the Kings from 2008 to 2016.

The winger captained the Kings to their first two Stanley Cup championships and scored 712 points (325 goals, 387 assists) with the team. He added 19 goals and 49 points in 92 career playoff contests.

The Kings will celebrate “Dustin Brown Night” prior to their home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 11, 2023.

Brown will become the seventh Kings player to have his number retired by the team, joining Rob Blake (No. 4), Marcel Dionne (No. 16), Dave Taylor (No. 18), Luc Robitaille (No. 20), Rogie Vachon (No. 30) and Wayne Gretzky (No. 99). He’ll be the first Kings Stanley Cup champion to have his number retired in L.A.

Numerous statues of sports legends stand outside Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles, with iconic figures from the Kings and Los Angeles Lakers — including Gretzky, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal — immortalized near the entrance doors.

Brown ranks seventh on the Kings’ all-time points leaderboard. His 325 goals are good for sixth and his 387 assists rank eighth. Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar are the only two other members of the 2012 and 2014 Kings to place on those leaderboards.
