Logan Brown Looking to Be Traded By Senators, GM Dorion Comments

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun notes that RFA forward Logan Brown hasn’t signed a qualifying offer with the Ottawa Senators and the player is looking to be traded by the organization. Unhappy with the way things have gone, a trade might not be incredibly easy to pull off and there may be a process to get him moved.

Garrioch writes:

“A former No. 1 pick, he wants to be dealt before camp begins. Brown has yet to sign his qualifying offer… It hasn’t worked out for either side and it’s best they both move on, but Brown may have to accept a deal, come to camp and try to increase his trade value because he won’t be given away.”

Brown played in one game for the Senators last season. During the 2019-20 campaign, he played in 23 games and scored 1 goal and 8 assists. Things have not turned out as either the player or the team might have hoped and at this point, it seems best parties make a fresh start.

A 23-year-old RFA, Brown isn’t going to be a must-have for any NHL team. That said, there are some teams rumored to be interested. A club that takes him on won’t be willing to part with much to acquire him, but the Senators probably don’t want to lose him for anything either as they invested a first-round selection on the player and have tried to give him time to develop.

Of the team mentioned as possible landing spots, the San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes (depending on the Kotkaniemi situation), and Arizona Coyotes could be among the interested teams.

Dorion did mention the Senators have some internal depth at the center ice position so Brown will be in tough to make the squad unless he comes to camp and impresses.
