NHL Wednesday bets: Two SGPs built around shots on goal

Our week in hockey has started quite horribly, to be frank. Whether you choose to fade our reads or weather the storm, we're just glad you're still here. There are just two games tonight, but there does seem to be some value on the board, particularly as it relates to shots on goal.

It's there we go with a pair of shot SGPs tonight in the NHL. Let's get right. I've put 1u on each of these plays.

Columbus vs. New York SGP (+210 FanDuel)

These two teams just met on Sunday and racked up 81 SOG between the two of them. Columbus and New York have each been getting peppered by shots for the past few games, which opens the door for bets on both ends. It was admittedly difficult to not choose 6-7 names here, as everywhere you look there does seem to be compelling cases worth backing.

Mika Zibanejad 2+ shots — Zibanejad has been shooting the puck far more frequently of late, with 5+ attempts in six straight. That volume has helped him go for 3+ in five of those six, and I'm just asking for 2+ tonight. Zibanejad has 2+ shots in nine of his past 10 against the Blue Jackets, and when he logs 5+ shot attempts, he hits this number at a 96% rate over the past few seasons.

Chris Kreider 2+ shots — Kreider for 2+ is simply me being way too conservative, but such is the nature of this beast right now, I just want to see green checks. Kreider just had six SOG against Columbus on Sunday, and he has 2+ shots in 86% of games this year and 88% at home. He's averaging 3.6 SOG/game against the Blue Jackets the past two years.

Boone Jenner 2+ shots — Jenner has been steady at this 2+ number. He has hit the mark in eight straight and 11 of his past 12. He's been even more consistent on the road, notching two or more shots in 19 of 22 as the visitor this season. Jenner has covered this in six of his past nine against the Rangers, including four games with 4+ shots.

Jack Roslovic 2+ shots — Roslovic has been rolling and could be worth a bet up at 3+ straight. The top-line wing for Columbus has 2+ shots in six straight and 3+ in four of those games. On the road, he's logged two or more SOG in five straight, averaging 3.2 SOG/game. For good measure, he has 3+ shots in three of his last four against the Rangers, including each of the past two games at MSG.

St. Louis vs. Edmonton SGP (+102 FD)

The Oilers are my preference in the shots market from this one. At home, they average over 33 shots per game over the past 45 days, and with St. Louis on a back-to-back, Edmonton should control the pace.

The Blues are allowing 32.6 shots on goal per game on the road across the last month and a half, the Oilers are going to have avenues for shots here.

Zach Hyman 3+ shots — Hyman has been a force this year, averaging 3.7 shots/game and 4.0 on home ice. He has 3+ shots in 81% in Edmonton this season and in five straight meetings with St. Louis.

Leon Draisaitl 2+ shots — I like Draisaitl up at three, but find this 2+ to be of course a safer floor to go. Draisaitl has 2+ in eight of his last 10 and 12 of his last 15 at home. He has hit this number in 18 straight games against the Blues, so I mean, let's just make that 19 in a row, OK?

Evander Kane 2+ shots — Kane is another we heavily water down, but I have much more confidence in him at this 2+ number. Kane has four SOG in three straight games on 25 total attempts, and he's logged 2+ SOG now in 13 of his last 15 and 93% of home games this year. That's good enough for me.
