Stastney Scores, Askarov Shines in AHL All Star Challenge
USA TODAY Sports

Yaroslav Askarov showed off his goaltending skills and his personality at the All Star Challenge. Askarov and Milwaukee Admirals teammate Spencer Stastney competed with ten Central Division All Stars in the All Star Challenge, a three-on-three tournament featuring the All Stars from the four AHL divisions.

The four teams played a six game round robin tournament with two five minute halves in each game. The top teams in the round robin went on to play in a six minute, three-on-three Championship game.

The Central won their first game against the Atlantic 4-1 with Askarov in net for his division. Askarov made some big saves including this glove save that thrilled the spectators and commentators.

In their next game against the North, the Central Division lost in a shootout with Jesper Wallstedt in net.

In their third game, the Central battled the Pacific for a chance to play in the championship game. Spencer Stastney scored to kick off a comeback to tie the game up in regulation.

Yaroslav Askarov took turns with Wallstedt in the shootout which went five rounds before the Pacific scored to eliminate the Central from the final.

The Pacific Division went on to defeat the Atlantic Division in the Championship Game with a late goal by Arshdeep Bains of the Abbotsford Canucks to win. Bains won the MVP Award for the Challenge.

With the 2024 AHL All Star Classic wrapping up, Stastney and Askarov will head back to Milwaukee to join their Admirals teammates as the Admirals look to extend their twelve game winning streak on Friday against Central Division rival Chicago Wolves.
