Wild’s Pat Maroon undergoes successful back surgery, will miss 4-6 weeks
Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Wild announced on Wednesday that forward Pat Maroon underwent successful back surgery earlier this week and is expected to miss approximately four-to-six weeks.

Maroon, 35, last suited up for the Wild against the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 27, logging just 4:15 of ice time and finishing with a minus-one rating in Minnesota’s 3-2 loss.

Through 49 games with the Wild this season, Maroon has four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. In 13 NHL seasons, Maroon has 121 goals and 183 assists for 304 points in 778 career games with the Wild, Tampa Bay Lightning, St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers and the Ducks.

In 150 post-season games, Maroon has 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points, and at one point won three consecutive Stanley Cup championships with the Blues (2019) and Lightning (2020, 2021).

Maroon scored a career-high 27 goals with the Oilers in 2016-17, then set another career-high 43 points the following season, which he split between the Oilers and Devils.

Minnesota originally acquired Maroon in July from the Tampa Bay Lightning alongside forward prospect Maxim Cajkovic in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

The Wild are 21-23-5 with 47 points through 49 games, seventh in the Central Division and seven points behind the Blues for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. Forward Kirill Kaprizov leads the team with 45 points (19 goals and 26 assists) through 42 games, followed by Mats Zuccarello with 39 points (eight goals and 31 assists).

Rookie defenseman Brock Faber has 29 points in 49 games and leads the team in ice time, averaging 24:51.
