Arsenal, Havertz on historic run through Premier League

Arsenal is the hottest team in the Premier League, and no one is playing better for the club right now than German midfielder Kai Havertz.

Arsenal won its seventh straight Premier League game on Monday with a 6-0 away shutout of Sheffield United as Havertz scored in his third consecutive Premier League game — the 24-year-old also has an assist in each of the last two games. Arsenal has been almost unstoppable in its latest run with four shutouts and went up 5-0 in the first half against Sheffield.

No player has been under the microscope more this season than Havertz, who left Chelsea and joined Arsenal for a reported fee of $82.6 million in June 2023. Havertz only scored one goal in his first 12 games with Arsenal but now has seven goals and three assists on the season.

Arsenal is the first Premier League team to win seven games in a row this year and now finds itself just two points behind first-place Liverpool headed into Saturday's home game against Brentford.

Arsenal and Havertz have made history as of late. The win over Sheffield United tied their largest margin of victory in a Premier League game following a 6-0 win over West Ham United on Feb. 11 and tied their largest margin of victory in a top-flight game with a 7-1 win over Aston Villa in 1935.

The win also made Arsenal the first English club to win three consecutive away games by five or more goals and made it the first English club to score at least five goals in three consecutive top-flight games since Burnley did it in 1961.
