Could Kalvin Phillips be stuck at Manchester City at the end of the month?

Could forgotten Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips remain at the club come the end of the transfer window? It appeared that the England international would depart the club this month but so far a move has failed to materialise.

SkySports reports that Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Everton, West Ham and Juventus all have an interest in securing Kalvin Phillips. At this stage, no offer has been accepted by Manchester City for his services.

Rob Dawson has reported for ESPN that the treble winners are asking for a loan fee and a mandatory option to buy included in any deal for Phillips. Furthermore, Dawson adds that City are asking for a loan fee of £7 million for the former Leeds United man. He further adds that these demands have put off Newcastle and Juventus in securing a deal.

A January move for the midfielder does feel like the best move for all concerned. With Phillips being unable to force his way into Pep Guardiola’s lineup it did appear that he would depart the club early in the transfer window. But with no club appearing willing to meet Manchester City’s demands he has remained at the club. Whether or not that remains the case later in the window remains to be seen.

Manchester City are under no obligation to move Phillips this month. The club have to approach the deal and find one that is in the best interests of the club. The club owe Phillips nothing in this regard despite his wish for more regular football to maintain his standing in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships.

If a move doesn’t happen for the midfielder this month he may have to stay at the Etihad. While it isn’t ideal for Phillips if a suitable deal doesn’t arrive it may become a reality.
