Inter Milan CEO Says Club Won’t Spend Big On Replacement For Ex Chelsea Veteran In January

Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta says Inter Milan won’t spend big in January to sign a replacement for wingback Juan Cuadrado.

The Inter executive spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He also said that there are no issues with any of the contract extension talks currently going on at the club.

Inter wingback Cuadrado will be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future,

The Colombian had to undergo surgery on his left Achilles tendon.

Cuadrado successfully completed the operation. But the 35-year-old former Juventus, Chelsea, and Fiorentina veteran will have to recover over the coming weeks, or even months.

This means that Inter will be without a player who offers depth at right-wingback for a big chunk of the run-in of the campaign.

Denzel Dumfries is first-choice in the role. But the Dutchman has had fitness issues of his own – he is currently out with a muscle injury.

And then there’s Matteo Darmian.

The former Manchester United man is certainly more than capable of playing on the right flank. But he is also important cover in defense.

Therefore, at present, Inter’s squad does not look like it is in great shape on the right given the punishing fixture list on the way.

Marotta: Inter Won’t Spent Big On Juan Cuadrado Replacement In January

Marotta said that “I’m scanning the market along with Ausilio and Baccin.”

“Cuadrado’s absence has certainly created a hole in our squad.

The Nerazzurri executive stated that “Cuadrado’s absence puts us in a position of looking for a replacement,”

“it’s to be expected that Inter won’t leave any stone unturned,” he continued.

Marotta said that “I’m optimistic in saying that we will find the right solution.”

“It will be in line with our aim of being financially sustainable,” he continued.

“We don’t want to deceive anyone,” Marotta said. “We can’t spend big.”

“We’ll do what we can, and try to solve these problems.”

And regarding the contract extension talks with players like Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marotta said that “We’re proud that they want to extend their time with us.”
