Manchester United vs. Liverpool postponed following supporter protests

Manchester United's match against Liverpool on Sunday was postponed after fans stormed into Old Trafford and rushed the field in a protest against the team's owners, the Glazer family. 

The club said in a statement:

"Following discussion between the Police, The Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, our match against Liverpool has been postponed due to safety and security considerations around the protest today. Discussions will now take place with the Premier League on a revised date for the fixture.

"Our fans are passionate about Manchester United, and we completely acknowledge the right to free expression and peaceful protest. However, we regret the disruption to the team and actions which put other fans, staff, and the police in danger."

The protests are a result of anger with the Glazer family after Man United's failed attempt to form and join the breakaway European Super League.

Similar protests against Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke took place last month. 

Manchester United currently sit second place in the Premier League and are expected to reach the Europa League final after defeating AS Roma 6-2 in the semifinal first leg last week.

Man United's next Premier League clash will be May 9 against 10th-place Aston Villa. The second leg of the Europa League semifinal is set for May 6.
