Nottingham Forest fullback Serge Aurier says Ryan Mason deserves a chance as permanent manager at Tottenham.

Aurier played for four years at Spurs and had a spell under Mason after Jose Mourinho's dismissal.

Aurier said: It's been difficult for Spurs, but [the season] has been difficult for everyone. I am really happy for the new manager, because he has a good idea for the team.

When they sacked [Jose] Mourinho, he [Mason] picked the team and we did well. They need to give him one chance to finish the season and maybe to start next season, because he has the mentality of the club. For me, he is really good manager."

Asked whether Spurs should give the job to Mason full-time, Aurier said: Of course. Why not? It makes sense to try. If he picks the team each week, why not try him?

He knows the players, he knows everyone at the club, and he has experience. Not much, because he is young, but he has the character to keep that team [together] and to do a good job. It is difficult always to change the manager every time. They have to believe in him and give him a chance."
