The Survivor Series showdown between GUNTHER & The Miz will go a long way in proving who is the greatest Intercontinental Champion.

This weekend's event will see GUNTHER defend the gold against the A-Lister, who earned a shot at the Austrian earlier this month. Both men have close ties to the Intercontinental Championship. In addition to being the current champion, GUNTHER boasts the record for the longest individual reign and is closing in on the record for the most collective days of any champion. The Miz has held the Intercontinental Championship on eight occasions, more than any other current WWE Superstar.

The Greatest Intercontinental Champion

The Miz & GUNTHER have had very different journies in WWE & pro wrestling, which makes their upcoming showdown all more interesting. Speaking with Insight, GUNTHER admitted to being put off from watching WWE during 2010-2012, when Miz was at his peak.

There was a time when I came up as a wrestler, I didn't bother watching WWE because it really was not my thing. I liked Japanese wrestling and I loved some of the indie stuff and that's where my focus was so I watched for personal entertainment. So The Miz, for me, was always the embodiment of the era when I didn't like to watch WWE at all.

Despite his initial hostility toward the A-Lister, GUNTHER is excited to defend his championship against The Miz. The Imperium leader also believes that this match will help decide the greatest Intercontinental Champion.

"So getting in the ring with him now is fantastic. Especially in WWE and it's about the Intercontinental Championship and it's basically the match of who really is the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. And I'm really excited for that match. Honestly."

GUNTHER Compares Careers

While The Miz was making his name in WWE, GUNTHER, then WALTER, was making his name across the globe in a variety of independent promotions. On the podcast, the Austrian compared his journey to WWE to that of the two-time Grand Slam Champion.

"When I joined the main roster [in early 2022], it was clear to me I needed to make a statement. I'm not a guy out of that [developmental] system. I've been in NXT UK and I was in a little bit of NXT but all of my development, all of my figuring myself out, all of that happened way before WWE. So I'm not the typical guy.

"Miz on the other hand is a prime example of how good their development system is. Because he started with them and he's [now] one of the most decorated names they have."

WWE Survivor Series: WarGames will take place this Saturday, November 25, from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois
