John Cena wanted to be as naked as possible at the Oscars.

The 16-time WWE Champion appeared nude on the award show to present an Oscar. Ironically, his role was to announce the winner of the Best Costume Design, which was one by Poor Things.

He shuffled on stage at the event, with only the gold envelope covering his genitals. The gag was that he was supposed to streak across the stage, in reference to the streaker from the 1974 Oscars ceremony.

John Cena recently appeared on the Pat McAfee Show following WrestleMania 40. He was asked if he doesn’t take things too seriously, something which refuted. He revealed he takes everything but himself seriously, which allows him to do embarrassing gags like at the Oscars and go all in on the joke.

“I do take it seriously. But I take it seriously, not myself, not me looking cool. Because if you try to look cool all the time, you’re just chasing a perfect view of yourself that doesn’t exist. Man, I know I got a bald spot on the back of my head. I flossed it last night at WrestleMania. Me, you, and like seven out of 10 dudes have them. I don’t care. I’m not perfect, that’s not me.”

“So, I think instead of trying to craft every situation to how can I look the strongest or the best, I look at every situation of how can we make this the best situation. Oh, when we go over the Oscar bit and they’re like, ‘Ah, do you want to wear Spanx or spandex or a speedo?’ No, make me as naked as possible. So, Disney says it’s too naked. That’s how we go.”

“That’s the funny bit, that’s the gag. And that’s why everyone’s entertained. I think that’s what leads to polarizing opinions, and that’s what leads to interest. People can have that stuff and say, like, ‘Oh, this is this,’ but it is what it is. It’s free. Your entertainment to decide what you want.”

John Cena appeared in the main event of WrestleMania 40 this year, to help Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns. Luckily, he was fully clothed that night.
