WWE Backlash 2024 Report Card: Including Cody Rhodes Vs AJ Styles

Wherever Tiffany Stratton goes, she gets a massive pop. She will be champion soon enough, but it was not her time.

Bayley is still leaning back into the babyface role and she could not drop the title so quick. Naomi took the loss, hinting at just Stratton going after the gold.

I liked the quick pin coming out of nowhere. The final spot allowed the title to stay put, while putting everyone over in the ring. Grade: B+

Women’s Tag Team Championship: The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) vs Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill

In short time, we have seen WWE has high hopes for Jade Cargill. The former AEW champion is already a titleholder in WWE.

Unlike most women tag team title matches, both teams made total sense. The Kabuki Warriors have been together for years, with Bianca Belair and Cargill coming across like veterans too.

Great chemistry amongst everyone and the title change is not shocking. Hopefully, WWE can keep this pace going as the women’s tag team division has not looked any better. Grade: B+

Undisputed Championship: Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles

It is one thing to win the championship and another to actually defend it. We are seeing a new AJ Styles, but it was not enough to stop Cody Rhodes.

These two have met before, after Rhodes left WWE and Styles departed TNA. That match took place under the NWA umbrella.

It was a good match, but not the best of the evening as the card was stacked. Rhodes won and everyone went home happy. Grade: A-

World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest vs Jey Uso

Damian Priest is the second person to cash-in Money at the Bank at WrestleMania. He did so at WrestleMania 40, ending Drew McIntyre’s title reign at 5 minutes. 

He took on Jey Uso, who was looking to capitalize on the Yeet movement and win his first singles gold. Surprisingly, the title match went much better than I thought.

Priest keeps his belt, but the friction in The Judgment Day is ready to boil-over as Rhea Ripley remains injured. I could see Finn Balor challenging for the belt, with JD McDonagh costing someone the strap. Grade: A-

Tag Team Street Fight: The Bloodline (Tama Tonga & Solo Sikoa) vs Randy Orton & Kevin Owens

Before Kevin Owens even made it to the ring, you knew the crowd was going to be fire the whole time. I liked the quick change, going from standard tag team match to no disqualification.

Going all around the arena made the crowd even louder. Honestly, that might be the best tag team match to open a pay per view.

The Bloodline won, but the stable continues to dramatically change with Tanga Loa making his WWE return. We might see this pattern with The Bloodline continue until Roman Reigns is back inside a ring.

We got no Wyatt 6 and not every Backlash spoiler came to fruition, but a great show from France. So, did WWE Backlash 2024 deliver?
