After not finding major league jobs over the course of the offseason, veterans Jose Peraza and Abraham Almonte have elected to head to the Mexican League for 2024.
Peraza, 28, has some experience in Boston. He spent the shortened 2020 campaign with the Red Sox.
Peraza was a highly touted prospect in the early stages of his career, showing up on a few top-100 lists in 2015 and 2016, which led to him being acquired in a couple of notable trades.
The Mets announced that four players — corner outfielder/first baseman José Martínez, utilityman José Peraza and right-handed pitchers Robert Stock and Corey Oswalt — have all cleared outright waivers.

J.D. Davis took Baez's place in the lineup, and Jonathan Villar shifted from third base to shortstop as Davis took over at the hot corner.
While he certainly wasn't the superstar of the team, there is no way to under estimate the contributions that infielder Jose Peraza has brought to the Mets as a replacement player this season.
With the return of third baseman J.D. Davis looming after the All-Star break, Jose Peraza's roster spot on the Mets could be in jeopardy. However, Peraza has proven his worth as a key member to the "bench mob," and they must find a way to keep him around.
Aroldis Chapman allowed the Mets to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, as the Mets pull out a wonderful comeback to take game one of the doubleheader The Mets and the Yankees had an entertaining back to back game, as both teams jumped on ineffective starters to begin and the Mets got to the Yankees bullpen late.
Scoring was minimal during game one of the doubleheader between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves, and it was almost extinct in game two. There we only four baserunners in the game, and Ronald Acuna Jr.’s majestic solo home run was all the Braves needed for a 1-0 victory.
A historical night by Jacob deGrom ended in bitter-sweet fashion, as he exited the game after six shutout innings due to right flexor tendinitis. For the first time since September of 2019, Citi Field was able to host a packed house.
Free agency began at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday. Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez opted into his player option for 2021 while Jose Peraza elected for free agency.
With the offseason now officially underway following Tuesday’s conclusion of the World Series, the Red Sox are moving full steam ahead in terms of trimming down their 40-man roster.
